What is My Ideal Weight?

by Tracey
(Northamptonshire, UK)

Can you tell me what is my ideal weight? I'm 5'4inches tall, weigh 155 pounds and my thighs are quite heavy looking. I know I'm heavier than I should be as I get breathless sometimes if I'm hurrying around.

I've tried all sorts of diets but I'm the classic yo-yo dieter, what comes off always goes back on again:( Now I'm in my forties I think I should try harder to get a hold on this problem. Can you help me please?

Consider Measuring Body Composition Instead
by: Caroline

There are many scales and calculators on the net that you can refer to that will give suggestions for your ideal weight. Some take into account what sex you are, your age etc but they are not the best indication of your health - which is definitely more important than how you much you weigh taken on its own.

Looking at a chart at www.weightlossresources.co.uk it suggest a weight range of around 120-130 pound for your height. However, the percentage of fat in your body has a big effect on how you look and your health. A pound of muscle is smaller than a pound of fat because it is more compact.

Compare 2 women of the same height and weight, one of whom has exercised regularly and has a low fat ratio with a woman who doesn't exercise. The one who has exercised will look slimmer because her body has more muscle - which is more compact!

Start here more information about body composition and take the focus off those scales!
