Triumph Over Adversity

by Rev. Della
(USA)

I think my greatest success is triumphing over my childhood. I grew up in a violent, alcoholic home where abuse was served up daily. My father beat my mother regularly, usually in front of my sister and me. Neither one of my parents was available to provide a sense of security and safety for me, so I had to figure out how to do it for myself.

I worked long and hard to develop a sense of positive self worth. I am still working on it today. I have struggled for years to get myself to believe that I could be successful in life, in spite of my horrific background.

I am grateful to say that I have successfully overcome (most) of my past. I have had a successful career in corporate America, where I was a human resources executive for ten years. I have been an entrepreneur for over twenty years, first in a business with my husband, and then on my own. I have been a motivational speaker and corporate consultant for fifteen years. I am now also a licensed minister who teaches others how to live more successful lives.

I have been married to my best friend for thirty years. We have a wonderful relationship and he is a great blessing in my life. We also have two adult sons who are kind and caring people.

Who would have thought that a scared, abused little girl from Brooklyn could have overcome so much? Most people think I am successful, although sometimes I feel frustrated that I haven’t accomplished even more.

However, the greatest thing I have accomplished is that I broke the cycle of alcoholism and abuse that were so much a part of my past. And I am really proud of that.

I am currently working on a spiritual healing website in order to help others overcome the challenges of their past. My goal is to get them to realize their worthiness to receive all of the good that life has to offer.
