Stress Relief Activities Try Some of These Ideas You'll Soon Feel Better!
Stress relief activities are another way of relieving the signs and symptoms of stress. Meditation and yoga are popular choices but there are plenty of other ways which work well too.
Have some fun, get busy or just pamper yourself!
We already know why exercise reduces stress but there are plenty of other ways to deal with it too.
The most simple stress relief activity is to take yourself somewhere calm and quiet. A peaceful, comfortable place, where you aren't surrounded by distractions is ideal - just relax and clear your mind. It may not be meditation from the purist point of view but it's a good start.
Being physically active, playing a sport, cleaning the house, (did I say that?), or taking a walk, is a great way to relieve stress.
Pamper yourself - take a relaxing bath with essential oils. Lavender oil is renowned for calming the mind. Or maybe a facial would take your troubles away along with impurities?
Keep a journal, recording what triggers stress and how you feel. This can be a great relief for some, though others find the prospect of dwelling on problems just adds to them!
There are as many ways of reducing stress as there are causes of stress, so I could go on making specific suggestions but there is a much simpler approach suggested by www.helpguide.org who say.......
Bring your senses to the rescue!
By stimulating any of our senses we can feel calmer and more relaxed:-
Touch - any animal lover will tell you there's nothing more soothing than stroking their cat or dog! Massage your neck or hands, or place something warm and cosy on your neck or face.
Sounds - listening to music, birdsong, the tinkling of water from a fountain in the garden or stream are great for soothing the mind. There are recordings of many sounds such as rainfall, the wind, the sea etc available as MP3s for download, often free.
Taste - No, I'm not suggesting you gorge mindlessly on choccies! Treat yourself to a new experience, a piece of fruit you've never tried before, or your favorite ice cream or curry. Think about tastes and textures that please you, how something feels as you eat it.
Smell - The smell of certain food and drink is very comforting - freshly baked bread or brewed coffee, or various fruits. I love the smell of pineapple and strawberries! Or treat yourself to a bunch pf flowers specially chosen for their perfume as well as their beauty.
Sights - photos of loved ones, favorite places that evoke happy memories, mementos, a piece of sculpture or jewelry, a painting - anything you look at which makes your heart skip a beat could be just the stimulus to wipe out tension and stress.
No Special Equipment Required!
Don't look upon stress relief activities as boring chores, or give in to pressure. Experiment, and explore your senses - You'll need to practice, remind yourself to call up the sense that works well for you or play with all of them. Pretty soon you'll quickly be able turn on the senses and switch off the stress!
