What Are The Main Causes of Stress?
Recognize the causes and have a strategy for dealing with them!

What are the main causes of stress in your life? Workplace worries, money problems, family feuds, general pressures of daily life? Or is your list of stresses long enough to fill a note book?

main causes of stressI can list half a dozen or so things that have wound me up this morning - my feet got wet when I walked the dogs, no soured cream in the supermarket, queue at the car wash, couldn't find my purse, no parking spaces etc! Just everyday, little things that can happen to us all, but as they mount up we feel more and more stressed.

How can the main causes of stress be summed up?

According to International Stress Management Association UK -

"The adverse reaction people have to excessive pressures or other types of demand placed on them."

Demands come at us from all angles but can be summed up simply:-

  • Work/job related
  • Financial
  • Emotional
  • Relationships
  • Daily life pressures

To reduce stress to the minimum possible we need to take a long, hard look at our lives and identify how we are contributing to the problems and what we can do about it. We need to have a system so we know how to manage stress.

This takes time and patience - both of which are pretty much non-existent when you are feeling stressed! Aaaargh! I hear you say, I don't want to analyze this, I just want it to GO AWAY, NOW! When you feel like your head is bursting and overwhelmed with problems, take some time out. It's one of many good reasons to exerciseand is a real stress buster, or try going for a walk or cycle ride. Did you know that exercise reduces stress?

Do any of these situations sound familiar?

Work Related Stress - Even if you really enjoy your job it can be a constant source of stress. Maybe your relationship with a work colleague is difficult, or you have concerns about continuing employment, or meeting targets for sales. The situation could be made worse for you by seeing colleagues just sailing through each day without any concerns.

Family - how come those we love the most can cause us so much grief? Sometimes we allow ourselves to become just too close and involved with their problems - we worry and fret. Guilt often comes in here too, if we don't give them our all then we're letting them down? No way! There are only so many hours in the day and we have to prioritize for our own sake otherwise we are feeling stressed and guilty.

Many of us would probably list money problems as one of our main causes of stress - when do we ever feel there's enough to go round?

Some of us respond to stress with anger. This happens to the best of us,and it is nothing to be ashamed of. Learn how to heal your anger and channel it into something useful at AngerManagementResource.com.

In this consumer lead society there are always pressures to have the latest, most fashionable, high tech clothes/TV/cell phone etc, and that's apart from the everyday items which seem to cost more while our income declines! Don't despair, household budgeting, managing your finances effectively, can set you on the road to a 'less stressed' future.

The main causes of stress in each of our lives will be different, but they are no less valid or stressful simply because they're not on a list! The effects of stress on health are varied, not necessarily all negative either. The better we understand how we are affected the better able we are to deal with stress.
