Build a list of healthy food, then a healthy shopping list, choosing the healthiest foods, according to your taste, season, price, availability and budget, and it will make following healthy eating plans and shopping so much easier. Where Should We Start? The internet has many, many examples of 'healthiest foods', 'healthy food lists' etc. Some very brief considering the huge variety we have to choose from, others have questionable content. In the spirit of providing the best possible information for you, I decided that rather than try and compile a list, which would be a truly huge task, I would introduce you to the best healthy food list I have found. It has been developed by The George Mateljan Foundation, a not-for-profit foundation, they are a great source of information about cooking and eating healthy foods.My Healthiest Food List A-ZHow does your list of healthy food compare? Of course there are many other foods that form part of my daily meals - I hate to use diet, its just normal, everyday eating! If you're wondering why some of your favorites or other foods are missing there are very good reasons. The criteria applied for inclusion on the World's Healthiest Foods list are commonsense really, but its good to be reminded and follow them when choosing our own foods. When selecting your foods ask yourself if they are.....- Nutrient dense - when the level of nutrients is high in relationship to the number of calories the food contains.
- Whole foods - preferably organic, not highly processed nor containing synthetic, artificial or irradiated ingredients.
- Familiar - everyday, common foods that most people will know and recognize.
- Readily available - foods that you can buy in your local market.
- Affordable - by shopping locally and in season not only will your food be at its best it will not be overly expensive.
- Taste good - fresh whole food, bursting with flavor - why would we want to eat anything else?
