It's Official....Life Begins at 40!

by Sabina Mendez
(Los Angeles, California, USA)

It seems as if people are beginning to enjoy their lives longer. They say that 40 is the new 30. What does that statement exactly mean?

Simply put, even if you’re way past your so-called prime, you can still live your life as if you were part of the younger generation. Unfortunately, there are still some people who fear growing older.

They think that just because they’ve aged, they will no longer be able to enjoy a lot of the things they love doing. For them, this may as well be a death sentence.

If you can’t live your life to the fullest, then there is no point of enjoying every moment of it. But the truth is, there is a way to slow down father time.

Though aging is inevitable, you can still take care of yourself and your body so that you can be as active as you were back then.

Physical inactivity is one of the biggest and most common health issues in the modern world. People age faster because they have this mistaken notion that they need to take it easy as they become older.

You simply cannot spend most of your days doing absolutely nothing. At this rate, you could lose your strength because your body has grown so used to the inactivity.

There’s also the diet you have to consider. Exercise isn’t enough to keep you healthy and young-looking.

When you don’t get the proper nutrition, your body won’t be able to take the rigorous activity you forced on it. What is needed is a lifestyle change, one that encompasses every aspect of your health.

Living an idle life increases your chances of getting heart disease, cancer, or diabetes. Proper nutrition and exercise are important to not only allow you to live a longer life but to make it better as well.

Yes, you do have to work harder once you get older because your body isn’t as capable of healing itself as quickly. You lose a certain percentage of your muscle tissue one you’ve passed the age of 30. You lose even more after every decade.

Recreational type activity such as walking, jogging, or cycling does help, but you need more to stop the loss of muscles. You need to get into a strength training regimen to counteract this unfortunate process.

The exercise will not only strengthen your muscles, it is also able to target your bones. You may find that you aren’t as prone to injury when you regularly workout.

Go slow and gradual because you need to get your body used to it before you can expect to see results.

Okay, so what if you’ve hit the big 4-0? With healthy eating and the proper exercise, you are very well able to keep up with the younger ones. The secret to growing old gracefully is to love what you have and to take care of it as soon as possible.

You have so many things to do, and while you are able to do them, make sure that you live each and every moment of your life to the fullest. Toss out those old ideas of growing old. Look forward to the new version of an older adult, one who is strong, fit, and active.
