How To Attain Happiness As You Mature

by Sally Boon
(Los Angeles, California, USA)

When it comes to enjoying life, it helps to see the world in the eyes of a child. These little tots remain happy and carefree because they don’t have problems to think about and responsibilities to worry over.

While this isn’t to say that you should let go of all your duties to your friends, family, and work, you also have to learn when to step back and realize that problems are a normal part of life.

Rather than letting these issues rule you, you have to get the upper hand on the situation. It’s time to take charge and maybe look at life the way children do.

First of all, you need to start getting creative. Be yourself and unafraid of being different. Children don’t often suffer from anxiety or freeze in front of a computer, not knowing what to write or say.

Tapping into the unfettered creativity you had as a child, when no inner critic yammered in your head, can make life a lot more pleasurable. Many studies have shown that creativity is associated with positive mood and even joy.

Other studies have also shown that people who express themselves in writing on a regular basis are less depressed, take fewer vices, and are basically healthier. Expressing yourself whichever way you know how reduces physical and mental stress.

Creating something orders your thoughts. Keeping a journal may help you in more ways than you realize.

One of the hallmarks of creative activity is the feeling of flow, losing track of time because you’re so involved in what you’re doing. If you experience flow, you feel the creative juices flowing like a river.

There are lots of ways to stroke your creativity. You could make a scrap book of your life or think about how you engage in creative problem-solving.

Before you’ll realize it, you’ll see the world and all its possibilities. Remember, it’s never too late to change. It’s time to embrace life and take advantage of all the opportunities presented to you.

Learn to explore more. Children often question everything, and this may sometimes drive you bonkers. However, in essence, this may be worth emulating.

Kids are dogged in their pursuit of knowledge; maybe it’s time that you act this way. You acquire new skills when you learn to look around and see what’s in front of you.

Curious people are likely to be more positive because they expose themselves to challenges that lead to the accumulation of knowledge and experience. This, in turn, leads to improved skills, which leads to an increase in confidence and wellbeing.

But as you age, your natural sense of curiosity can wane. You become more self-conscious and have a hard time deviating from planned activities.

You can, however, always restore your openness to new experiences. Shake off negative preconceptions by going outside your comfort zone, even through simple acts.

Talk to stranger, eat something unfamiliar, or choose books you’d normally ignore. Your whole perspective may eventually change and it’s important to withhold judgment and let your curiosity unfold naturally.

You’ll soon see that there is yet more to life out there for you.
