Indigestion, sunburn & hangovers, are just some of the most common problems with quick solutions. Here are some simple ways to regain wellness.
You drink too many alcohol? Use honey to get rid of hangover. "You can relieve the symptoms of hangover by eating a piece of bread or biscuits with honey, or any other product rich in fructose. This is because fructose helps the body process the alcohol faster", explains Dahlia Campbell, dietician, cited by The Daily Mail newspaper. Fructose can be found in large amounts in apples, cherries, grapes and tomatoes.
Use vinegar for bruises. Clean the wound with cold water and then apply a vinegar compress on the wound and press to stop the bleeding. Because analgesic properties, antibacterial and antiseptic, vinegar prevents infection and speeds up healing.
Immerse your hands in cold water to stop sweating. "It may take half an hour until the brain will realize that you've stopped training or not sit in the sun and, therefore, your sweat does not stop immediately", explains Dr. Mark Whiteley, specialist in vascular surgery. "The hands have a lot of blood and blood vessels very close to the skin. The blood will be cool and will reach the heart causing the brain to stop the sweat glands".
Green Tea helps combat bad breath. Researchers at the University of British Columbia have tested several methods to combat bad breath and found that green tea is very effective in removing volatile compounds of sulfur produced by bacteria. In addition, green tea contains catechins, substances that neutralize odor from the mouth.
Milk to get rid of heartburn. If you suffer from heartburn and do not have anything on hand to calm down, try to drink a glass of milk. Milk is slightly alkaline, neutralizes excess acid and give temporary relief.
"Lie on your left side to combat indigestion. The most common form of indigestion is acid reflux, especially at night. The stomach is on the left abdomen, which means that if you sleep on your left, the acid will remain there and will not return", explains Dr. Peter Fairclough, gastroenterologist at a clinic in London.
Another method is to sit with your head is in a higher position than the body, about 7-10 cm, so the acid remains in the bottom of the stomach.
Use oatmeal to soothe sunburns. "The first thing to do is to take ibuprofen to reduce the amount of prostaglandins and cytokines produced by sunburn", says Dr Nick Lowe, dermatologist Cranley Clinic in London. Then opt for a warm bath and add oatmeal or cereal. Oatmeal soothes and moisturizes the skin burned.
