Is controlling high blood pressure without drugs possible?

Including foods to lower blood pressure in your diet can in some cases be significant in lowering blood pressure naturally without medication.

A healthy diet and lifestyle is beneficial to all of us and easy to achieve with a little advice and inspiration, but to a person with high blood pressure it could be a lifesaver!

  • Lean meat with the emphasis on poultry.
  • Whole grains - oats, brown rice, rye, whole rye, rye bread, rye crackers, whole barley, whole wheat, spelt, wholemeal bread.

  • Low or fat free dairy products.

In the UK 6gm is the recommended daily maximum. In the US, the RDA is 2.3 g of sodium, or 5.75 g of salt, since to calculate the amount of salt from sodium you should multiply by 2.5.

Don't salt your food when cooking, use herbs and spices for flavoring instead, and don't salt at the table either! Reducing salt is the quickest way to lower your blood pressure.

You should also avoid processed foods, saturated fats, excess alcohol and caffiene - it's all commonsense really if you're serious about a healthy lifestyle!
