Dress for a Good Mood Day!

by Katie Sykes
(Brighton, UK)

We've all had days when we wake up feeling a bit miserable, a bit cold, a bit tired, or a bit like we just want to hide away from the world. It's tempting to reach for the baggiest, comfiest, greyest item in the wardrobe to complement these feelings for the day.

However, this point in the morning when you choose what to wear is when a small step outside your comfort can help to improve your day. Decide that you are not going to have a 'grey' day. Think how much your mood lifts when the sun is out, and apply the same feeling to your attire for the day.

Choosing a brighter colour like fuchsias, turquoises, yellows and greens will bring you back to life without you evening realising it. Wearing these more vibrant colours will help to illuminate your skin, whereas greys can make skin tones look dull.

Your friends and colleagues, and even the people you come across during you day, will react more positively to you if you're attracting their attention with a fresh bright colour. Wearing greys and blacks can make you fade in to the background and make you seem unapproachable to some people.

Try to avoid the 'black is slimming idea'. It's not the colour that makes you look slimmer, it's the fit of your clothes, so a well fitted pink top will look a lot nicer than a tight black top!

If you're having more than just a dull day, and feel like you need to make some changes, consider whether a shopping trip is order, and look specifically for new colours. You might even want to consult a style or colour therapist to see which colors best suit your skin tone. You could go further and take advantage of a haircut discount to try out a new style or even new hair color or highlights to brighten up your overall appearance.

Not only will you feel more confident with a new hairstyle , but you'll exude energy and appeal and this will boost your self esteem until you forget why you woke up feeling glum.
