Depression and Weight Loss
Depression and weight loss or weight loss and depression? It's a bit like which came first the chicken or the egg?
It is generally accepted that exercise is an effective treatment for depression whether you are obese, overweight or even a normal weight.
"I expect that the relationship between depression and physical activity goes in both directions," said study researcher Dr. Gregory Simon, a senior investigator and psychiatrist at Group Health Research Institute in Seattle. "Increased physical activity leads to improvement in depression, and improvement in depression leads to increased physical activity."
So in a nutshell, women whose depression improves with treatment may find it easier to lose weight.
