Coping with holiday stress or not? For a peaceful, happy stress free holiday plan ahead, be organized and keep it simple whenever possible.
Now matter how much planning and thought we've given ahead of time, as the holiday season gets closer often things seem to spiral out of control.
What should be fun, relaxing and enjoyable gradually, and sneakily conspires to frustrate, exhaust and stress you - suddenly you are confronted with a nightmare in the making.
Holiday times bundle together just about everything that can make us feel stressed and anxious into one big package. The long build up, followed by an intense few days of activity. The key is to try to do less and enjoy more, coping with holiday stress can be highly rewarding!.
So much to do - so little time! Our already busy lives suddenly have to cram even more in. Extra shopping, Christmas parties, visiting friends and family, traveling, preparing for visitors - each one piles on the pressure.
Financial worries - buying presents, extra food, travel, entertainment can put a huge strain on our finances. Budgeting is not something we want to think about when we're in festive mood but being prepared and keeping a close eye on expenditure will save heartache later.
Relationships - Christmas especially, and all holiday times can put a real stress on our relationships with family and friends too. Our instinct is to want to bring everyone together in one big happy family, but if there are wounds to be healed this is probably not the right time!

Have a special budget or savings fund and stick to it.
Don't eat, drink or spend too much.
Buy gift cards instead of presents.
Prioritize - you can't do everything and please everyone.
Say no! If you don't want to go to a party or there's no time for more shopping, that's it, say No!
Take time out - remove yourself from the kitchen, the partying, the tidying up etc.
Take some exercise - a short walk is a great stress buster.
Plan ahead - the shopping, present wrapping/delivery, card writing, cooking etc, then see how much can cut out.
Accept help - don't be a one-woman-whirlwind, most people enjoy helping out even when they are guests.
You don't have to home-bake everything! Make good use of pre-prepared foods to ease the load.
If you live alone don't feel pressured into accepting invitations.
If you know someone who lives alone, make sure they won't be feeling isolated, sad and lonely.
You can make this holiday season less stressful by thinking in advance about potential problems and planning to minimize or even eliminate them. Don't be pressured to conform to the expectations of others, live your own life in your own way.
