Cinnamon and Weight Loss

by Cindy
(AZ)

I recently have read about cinnamon and weight loss but don't really understand how this can be. I confess to be amazed at at what I was reading, some people said they had lost several pounds in just days.

Can you please help me have a clearer understanding of whether this is some amazing weight loss secret or just another wind up?

Cinnamon and Weight Loss - Health Benefits of Cinnamon
by: Caroline - Admin

Cinnamon is a sweet, fragrant spice with a warm taste. It comes from the bark of the cinnamon tree in either powdered or stick form.

Cinnamon has been used for thousands of years to treat nausea and vomiting, diarrhoea, rheumatism, and many other health problems. It improves the body's ability to utilize blood sugar, and the aroma boosts brain function and memory.

The ability of cinnamon to reduce blood sugar, and increase insulin levels means it will reduce risks associated with diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, such as obesity and insulin resistance, according to a study reported in Diabetes Care in 2003. Cinnamon also suppresses the appetite as it delays the 'gastric emptying rate' or in layman's terms how quickly your tummy empties!

There are various ways you can add cinnamon to your diet - cinnamon tea bags are easily bought from health food stores,so are capsules, or you can add it to food either at the cooking stage or when you eat.

The real question here is... Can cinnamon help with weight loss? So far I've not been able to find any definitive proof that it does, though it seems likely in view of the way it surpresses the appetite and how it helps the body to utilize insulin.

Conclusion:- Include it in your healthy eating plan, keep doing some form of regular exercise and monitor your weight - then tell us here!

If you can add to this I'd love to hear from you:-) Cinnamon recipes, cinnamon success stories, good sources of cinnamon etc.
